The Baby Box helps families prepare for the arrival of their baby. New babies need a surprising amount of stuff! Scotland’s Baby Box is packed full of clothes, bedding and lots of other useful things to help give your baby the best possible start in life. The Box also provides a safe and comfy place for your wee one to sleep. It comes complete with a mattress and bedding that fits perfectly.

To get the box, your midwife will fill in a Baby Box registration card with you between your 18-20 or 28 week appointment. Your midwife will send this card away to register you for your Baby Box, so you won’t need to do anything else.

What's in the Baby Box?

Scotland’s Baby Box is a welcome gift for every baby born in Scotland.  Not only is the box full of baby essentials from birth to 6 months, it’s also a safe and comfortable place for your wee one to sleep if you follow safe sleeping guidelines. You can use it to keep all your baby items in before they're born and as a memory box or a place to store toys once they're too big to sleep in it.

It's been designed so that you can pop your baby’s name and birth details on the lid – and if you have a toddler or older child, they can even colour it in – a lovely way to make them feel part of things when the new baby comes along.

The Box is full of items you can use to connect with your wee one in a positive, loving way. Here are some suggestions to get you going.

How do I get my Baby Box?

To be eligible for the Baby Box, your baby must be born and resident in Scotland. To get a box, you need to be registered with a midwife and living permanently in Scotland.

Your midwife will fill in a Baby Box registration card with you between your 18-20 or 28 week appointment. Your midwife will send this card away to register you for your Baby Box, so you won’t need to do anything else. Even if your appointments are rearranged due to the current situation, it will still be easy possible for you and your midwife to complete the registration card and send it away in plenty of time to ensure that you receive your Box before your due date.

Depending on when you do register for your Baby Box it will be delivered between 4 weeks before your due date up until your due date. You will get a text, email or letter (whatever you have told us you prefer) the week before your box will be dispatched. The carrier will then be in touch with your tracking details and an estimated time slot for delivery.
