What Kelly says

How did you get into cooking and healthy eating?

"I have always been interested in food and nutrition and I set up my own blog and Instagram channel recently to share recipes and cooking tips with other parents."

Is your child a fussy eater?

"On the whole, my daughter Emily is a good eater and loves fresh fruit, especially bananas. Emily gets bored of certain foods very easily so I try to introduce new and exciting recipes at meal times. I like to make one pot meals such as casseroles and chilli."

How do you do your meal planning?

"I prefer to do online shopping as I know exactly what my total bill is at the end of the food shop and it prevents me from impulse buying. When you shop online, you’re not tempted to buy chocolate and biscuits at the checkout. I also like to do my weekly shop at the beginning of the week, and make meals which I can then batch freeze and save for a later time."

What are some of your favourite food swaps?

"Some of my favourite food swaps for unhealthy snacks are breadsticks, raisins and other dried fruit and cheese. I try to give Emily more savoury snacks over sweet ones to prevent her from getting a sweet tooth. I like to make sugar free cakes and flapjacks and savoury cheese crackers."

Do you like to motivate others to eat healthy and make healthy choices?

"I like to inspire people to eat healthily and shop on a budget using my Instagram and foodie blog. I didn't really know where to start with weaning and was quite confused as to what to offer my baby to eat so I started the blog for mums who were going through the same struggles as me. I realised that taking photos of some of my recipes, posting my tips and sharing thoughts enabled me to find a larger support network online."

Kelly's favourite recipe

"Skinny Bacon Carbonara. Almonds, lemon, garlic…this recipe is full of nutritious and tasty ingredients. I love this dish because it’s so easy to make in just 15 minutes and you can still have a delicious tasting pasta dish."

If you want to try a new pasta dish with the kids, give this creamy but healthy Trout Pasta a try. It’s ready in less than 20 minutes and feeds four for less than £6: https://www.eatbetterfeelbetter.co.uk/recipe/tasty-trout-pasta.

Kelly's top tips

"Do your main food shop online.  I prefer to do online shopping as I know exactly what my total bill is at the end of the food shop and it prevents me from impulse buying. When you shop online, you’re not as tempted to buy chocolate and biscuits that are on offer."

"Instead of giving my daughter crisps or other unhealthy savoury snacks, I like to give her chickpeas, baked with a blend of spices."
